Has it really been four weeks since my last post?
When I last posted, we were in the middle of a heat wave here in upstate New York. This morning it was 39° when I got up at 7 a.m. The trees are showing signs of turning colors. There is barely enough daylight for bicycle rides after work. Cross country running season is in full-swing. It’s not officially here yet, but it has seemed like fall for a week or two.
With sunset coming earlier and work being a little busier than usual, I was not able to match May and June’s frequency or miles on the bicycle. Here’s my summary for August:
- 316.5 miles
- 18 riding days
- 38 auto trips saved by bicycling, saving 27 miles and replacing those with 55 bicycling miles
- 11 recreational rides for 216 miles
September started well, with a 35 mile ride to Aqua-Terra Park in Binghamton, NY. This park has a pond, a few picnic tables, and hiking trails. [View Route]
Here’s a panoramic picture of the pond area. (Click on the picture for a larger version.)
Part of the park is the site of the former Innsbruck USA ski area. You can still see where a few of the trails were. (Again, click on the picture for a larger version.)
Here’s how it looked some 30 or so years ago:
