From The Cookie Calendar


1 cup flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips*

*Original recipe is for “Triple chocolate cookies.” Use 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips and 1/2 cup white chocolate chip cookies for the original.


  1. Heat oven to 350°.
  2. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Beat the butter and sugar until smooth and creamy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Add the flour mixture and mix until almost blended.
  5. Add the chocolate chips and mix.
  6. Scoop the dough onto baking shet 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake 12-14 minutes.

Makes approximately 3 dozen.
