Topping

Ingredients

1/4 cup margarine
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Procedure

  1. Blend ingredients with a fork and set aside

Bread Dough

Note: for 4.5″ x 8.5″ (1.5 quart) loaf pans, use amounts in brackets.

Ingredients

4 cups flour [3 cups]
1 teaspoon salt [3/4 teaspoon]
2 teaspoons baking powder [1 1/2 teaspoon]
1 teaspoon baking soda [3/4 teaspoon]
2 cups sugar [1 1/2 cups]
1 stick margarine [3/4 stick]
2 eggs [2 eggs]
2 cups buttermilk [1 1/2 cups buttermilk]

Procedure

  1. Preheat over to 350°
  2. Grease 2 large (9 1/4 x 5 1/4 x 2 3/4) loaf pans
  3. Sift flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder together and set aside
  4. Cream sugar, margarine, and eggs
  5. Mix buttermilk into creamed mixture
  6. Add flour mixture and mix well
  7. Add 1/4 of the batter to each loaf pan
  8. Sprinkle topping on top of batter in both loaf pans
  9. Add remaining batter to loaf pans
  10. Bake for 50-60 minutes (longer if baking at 325).

Makes 2 loaves.
