Morning's first light sets the clouds afire. Sorry, the cell phone camera just doesn't do it justice.

Well, technically not taken on my commute, but rather picking up Thing One from cross country practice.

Failed an attempt at this 51 miler to Nichols. I had to call for a rescue ride back home. I made it about 37 miles; out to Nichols and back to Owego. I probably could have made it all the way back but decided to just cut it short.

Why did I cut it short?

  • Got a flat just on the west side of Owego. After I changed the tube and remounted my bike, the winds had really picked up. The winds were out of the S-SW and I was heading either ride into them or into a strong crosswind from West Owego to Nichols.
  • It got hot a lot sooner than I expected. 85 degrees on a bank sign in Nichols. And much of the route, even though it was on back roads on the return trip, there was very little tree cover for shade or to block the winds.
  • Hill! Not hills, but one hill did me in—Stanton Hill Road between Lounsberry and Owego.

Add it all up and I was whipped!

I forgot to take my morning commute photo yesterday, but it was foggy anyway. It would look much like Tuesday’s and today’s photo.

New feature! Daily (when I remember to do it) pictures from the crappy cell phone camera of my daily commute to work.
